Question / Help Settings for encoding/stream server

Hello forum!

I need some configuration help with my newly assembled server and maybe some window tweaks that could help me.

Now that I have moved all my load away from my main desktop, I would really like to use a lower preset or some special settings that would lower my bitrate and up my quality.
My server isn't going to do anything else than encoding, so the cpu should only focus on doing this task.
But for starters, what present would be possible for my server?

CPU: Intel i5-2500k @3.6Ghz (probably going fpr 4.5Ghz~ if possible)
Cooler: Asetek/Corsair H40
MB: AsRock Z77 pro4-m
HDD: Samsung 400gb 7200rpm
RAM: Kingston 2x2GB 1333MHz
Case: Fractal design core 1000
PSU: Enermax NAXN 450w 80+
CC: Avermedia Live Gamer HD (c985)
OS: Windows 7 pro, 64bit

These are the settings I'm currently using
Resolution: 1280x720
FPS: 60
Bitrate: 3000kbps with unchecked buffer
Preset: Very fast
Connection: 11/11mbit.

I mostly (if not only) play TPS and FPS games, so 60fps is a must.
Feel free to ask me if you need more information, ty ;)

It's pretty hard to say exactly what is "possible" for any given setup. You will have to experiment on your own.

That said, you might be able to pull off faster, but you'll have to just try it and see. Otherwise, your settings sound pretty good to me already.

2500K @ 4ghz can handle preset faster 720p60 and fast 720p30 of course this is dependent on stream content as some games allow you to push it a little more. veryfast 720p60 is a safe general setting. If you learn x264 settings you can experiment with advanced settings and use something custom to fine tune it.

medium is the ideal preset to use however it is too much for a 2500k to do at 720p30/60 without dropping frames for most content.

Thanks for the feedback!
I'm quite pleased with my current setup, but if I could dish out some better quality and maybe lower by bitrate then I'll do that, since I'm not using it for anything else than encoding.

Using faster preset sounds good, I did try to use a lower preset on stock speed, but it didn't go that well.
I'll do some overclock and testing this weekend so I'll try to use the "faster" preset :)
just a quick question: What about the "cpu priority", should I leave it as default?

If all your computer is doing is encoding, then you might get a small increase in performance setting it to a higher priority, but changing process priority can potentially lead to system instability if you aren't careful. Since there's not much else going on besides encoding, you might be able to get away with bumping it up. Default is normally fine though.
