Question / Help Separate Desktop & Mic audio files

Is there some way to have the desktop audio and mic audio in separate files after a recording?

I like to adjust the audio in Audacity and it would help me eliminate annoying things like me coughing while still allowing sound to come in a constant stream from the desktop audio.

You can do it into a Editing software, like Sony vegas, you can add the entire clip and then you can select audio and open it into Audacity!!! ;)

Just to clarify what you said, to make sure I understand:

Do you mean using an editing software, such as Sony Vegas, I can detach the desktop audio and the mic audio from a video file which already has them combined into one audio file?

NOPE you cant but you clearly open your full audio into editing software, then audacity, go into the sound and remove that... certainly for the coughing now is impossible because you can not separate the audio when you record all in one, but you can fix it a little bit... next time you need to record audio in different line.... i am sorry i have wrongly read a different thing...

No worries.

I can record in audacity while muting mic volume in OBS, but then my problem becomes syncing it up properly. I dealt with that before and it's a huge pain.

If anyone has any other ideas (or an idea to deal with syncing as I mentioned above), please let me know.

You can also use your editing program and use audacity for turn down a little bit the audio when you cough...

EDIT: for next if you only RECORDING and not streaming you can use OBS Multiple Audio Track !!

You should use Multiple Audio tracks, there is some great information here: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/obs-studio-high-quality-recording-and-multiple-audio-tracks

Then in your video editor you will see one video track and multiple audio tracks and you can adjust the levels accordingly.
