Couple thoughts
- lots of different DAWs, each with their own capabilities and output options. So, you can't really treat them as a unified whole
- *IF* some DAW s/w companies are to be believed, there is something about the Windows OS audio sub-system that is a 'challenge/problem' for outputting DAW audio direct to the OS... hence your issue
what I came across when asking similar question was suggestions of using
- hardware or virtual loopback adapters,
- a DAW that does have a Windows Audio output option (some do.. my experience is with Presonus Studio Ooe, and their Pro version has a feature called 'listen bus'.. I'm sure others have similar),
- or the more recent common suggestion I've come across (again for Presonus Studio One, but applies to others) is to use Reaper's Reastream audio VST plugin in the DAW, which enables an audio output to Windows audio sub-system.
my research found some of the following, note some of this is a couple of years old, and we just had a major OBS update... so ymmv

Get your DAW Audio Output in OBS Studio and send it to Twitch, Youtube, Skype, Discord, Zoom, etc... Mar 16, 2020 Vincent Diamante
[Software Linked Below!] This is a tutorial video on how to use various plugins and drivers with OBS so that you can send audio from your music applications using ASIO drivers in Windows, things like Cubase, Digital Performer, Ableton, Renoise, or in this case, Reaper, out into the internet on streaming platforms like Twitch and Youtube. Further, we can use OBS's own functionality and additional plugins to make it function like a virtual webcam, having it effectively mix both its audio and video to become inputs into telephony software like Skype, Zoom, Slack, Discord, and other applications.
