Selecting "Use custom audio device" removes my video

Hi: I'm learning to record from the nintendo switch. The instructions of my Kedo capture card says to use OBS and in the video source window configure audio as follows: "Audio Output Mode" to "Output desktop audio (WaveOut)", then click "Use custom audio device". When I click that box I loose my video. When I unclick it, I get my video back. Can you please help me understand why I loose my video when I click on "Use custom audio device"?
 
I found a solution: In windows10: Settings / Sound / Input "Choose your input device" I needed to choose the USB Digital Audio option. Now I don't loose my video and I have audio on OBS.
