Question / Help Seeking setup advice (multiple options)

Hey Everyone,

First off I want to say thanks for taking time to read this and offering any suggestions in advance. I have streamed a little bit in the past using xsplit and screen regions but I would really like to step up my quality. I am not trying to stream anything too specific and will likely stream all game types. Recently I built a new PC which has a

i7 CPU - 3770S @ 3.1ghz
16GB of RAM
Nvidia 670 GTX

I also have an old laptop which has the following specs in it

Core 2 Dou 7450 @ 2.1ghz
4GB of RAM
9600gt Nvidia GPU

My mic set up is a Heil PR40 Dynamic mic plugged into an Avid M-Box

I have also purchased a Elgato Game Capture HD card along with an J-Tech Digital HDMI Splitter.

Here is my bandwidth on an average night.

I will primarily stream PC games over console (66/33 ratio) so I am looking for the option that will accommodation me the most. When I purchased everything I wasn't aware of OBS and thought I would have to stream everything through Xsplit. Since getting turned onto this site I have realized OBS offers a few more options for me. Basically would it even be worth running dual PCs to stream PC games or would I be better off just running it all through a single PC with my i7. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to set up dual PCs for streaming?

I have been messing around with both options and can't seem to get a good stable connections. There tends to be a lot of sound issues when I choose the dual PC route. Often times the sound is actually playing ahead the video and cuts out pretty badly. This led me to trying everything out on one PC. That works alright but I noticed a ton of hang ups and freezes when re-watching videos I am streaming (crysis 3 multiplayer/single player).

I figured before I drive my self insane I would see what people on here thought was the best option for me based on the gear that I use. Once I figure that out I can go from there on how to make everything work properly.

Thanks,

Note that Comcast is known for artificially inflating speed tests, so you may not actually be getting that speed. testmy.net is preferred for speed testing as it does a much longer sustained test (choose upload test, then under Select Size choose the 33MB one)

Your desktop PC is quite powerful and should be able to stream anything at up to 720p60fps with the bandwith available to you (even accounting for Comcast's over inflation). When streaming console games, you can even lower the preset as your desktop will only be doing encoding and not actually playing any games for a further quality increase.

Your system is similar to mine, so you can check out the VODs in my signature link to see the kind of things possible with your PC and OBS.

Thank you for the reply. I tried out testmy.net and while my download was accurate my upload was significantly worse. I ran the 33mb test twice and it shows that I am only getting about 2mb upload.

Yeah, this is normal with Comcast unfortunately.
Do you know anything about their "blast" internet package? It says its max 10mbs instead of the current 4mb. It might be worth looking into.

It will probably be an upload upgrade. Just make sure you do some research around the internet to see if you can't get info on legitimate, sustained speeds from other users.
