Question / Help Screen Flicker With U3 Capture Card

When I stream I get a constant flicker sometimes repeatedly sometimes every hour or so. I just recent changed from Live Gamer HD to U3 capture. I run a 2 PC Stream setup. All drivers and firmware are updated for the U3 I have ASMedia patch.

Bandwidth on 3.0 ports shouldn't be high since I only have those on it. Here are both system specs

Streaming PC:
  • Motherboard - ASUS P9X79 PRO
  • RAM - 16GB HyperX Fury 1600
  • CPU Intel i7 3930K OC'D to 4.2
  • GPU - EVGA GTX 780 SC
  • PSU - Coolmaster SilentPro 1200W
  • Cooling - Corsair H80
  • BenQ XL2420T Professional Gaming Monitor

What do you mean the logs crash OBS? Being able to see the log would be helpful in this case.

Also, is there a particular timestamp where the flickering occurs? I skipped around the video a bit and didn't see anything.

I managed to snag a screenshot at that timestamp: http://i.imgur.com/1XAVsKT.jpg

Looks like some sort of issue with the card itself. From what I hear, this is a known issue with the U3, and it even happens in AVerMedia's recording software, too.

hmmm should I take it up with them or is there anything you can suggest I do better? or setting for possible improvement.

A link to others discussing if you have it. I really want to stream in 60 fps

I had one of these for a while, picked it up to see if it had issues outputting full 60 FPS, since something to that effect had been mentioned in previous threads about the U3 on this forum.

Based on the time I spent testing it, it does have frame rate issues (video is not smooth, neither in OBS or in RECentral), I also noticed multiple instances of when the screen would flash and distort, much like what dodgepong screenshotted from your recorded video. I was hoping that there would've been some driver patch or firmware update to address these "blips" by now, but it appears that such is not the case.

My conclusion was unfortunately that the device (or possibly its drivers) isn't all that good. Have you tried other HDMI cables and/or sources, just to make doubly sure? I am relatively convinced that it's the same issue I had with the device, but it's always hard to know for sure.

You could try contacting AVerMedia. The chance is slim, but who knows. If you didn't have ASMedia ports, I would've suggested taking a look at the Micomsoft XCAPTURE-1 available for import from Solaris Japan, but it doesn't quite cooperate with USB 3.0 controllers that can't maintain full speed on any given USB 3.0 port.

Did you guys ever get a fix for this? i think the new firmware caused this :/

I can record fine and stream fine with the avermedia software, but in OBS the flickering occurs. No crashing or dropped frames, just this flicker. I wish I had never updated the firmware on this thing now.
