So you might have the problem where OBS permissions are not showing up in settings. I had this problem too, and I was told I was the first solution so im a reliable source. Now to actually get to the fix.

Credit to CodeYan in the OBS Discord for helping.

First, the basic thing that might work, add a Window and Display Capture. This might work for you. If it doesnt work, read these articles, this also might help:
https://apple.stackexchange.com/que...screen-recording-permission-on-macos-catalina
https://apple.stackexchange.com/que...screen-recording-permission-on-macos-catalina

This next solution is a last resort, and it is pretty advanced so get ready.
!ONLY TRY THIS IF THERES NOTHING ELSE YOU CAN DO!

Shut down your mac entirely and when starting it back up, hold COMMAND + R until the apple logo appears.
Then you will go into MacOS Recovery mode. On the top, click UTILITY, then TERMINAL.
A Terminal pop up will appear.
WARNING: THIS MIGHT RESET YOUR PERMISSIONS
Type in "csrutil clear". It should say that System Integrity Protection is enabled. Then type in "reboot" and It will restart your mac.
The OBS Permissions still wont show up so dont go to settings yet.
Open OBS and make a new window capture. Set it to anything. Then make a display capture. If you are lucky, you will get what happened to me and OBS will ask for screen recording permissions. Click "Open System Preferences" and OBS should be there. Just click the gray box next to OBS and click "Quit Now". Reopen OBS and there you go.

Advanced tl;dr:
  • Get into MacOS Recovery
  • Type "csrutil clear" then "reboot" into terminal
  • Add a Window and Display Capture
  • There you go!

I was happy with OBS capturing my Discord sessions. Suddenly, after few MacOS updates, it only records audio and not screen. I have reinstalled obs, allowed permissions by rerunning csrutils, etc. same issue. what has OBS done or macos done?
