Question / Help Scaling from x1200 to x1080?

Hello guys!

I just have a short question. I play on a 1920x1200 monitor is it possible to resize that to x1080 while streaming?

Not without changing your base resolution, which is a bad idea.

The smallest downscale (1.25) puts you at 1536x960, which is better for streaming that 1920x1080 anyways, you'll get better performance and less pixelation compared to 1080p. I think this is your best option.

Not really sure why changing the base resolution is a bad idea.

You can simply set 1920x1080 as your custom resolution to get a 16:9 output stream! BUT, what I would not recommend is to then stretch your source to fit this aspect ratio. Instead use the black space and add stuff to it. Twitter/Youtube/Facebook links, or whatever. Stretching often looks bad. But if you use the space clever, noone will notice that your input was 16:10.

Then you can also use the downscale to for example get a 1280x720 stream output. Which I would also recommend, instead of doing 1080p. It needs less bitrate to look good and thus can often be watched by more people without problems.

It reduces image quality. You should just set the same base resolution as your game, window, or monitor (whichever you're capturing). Then downscale as needed from there. The rest I agree with.

If it doesn't end up at exactly 1080 or 720 in the vertical dimension, or 1920 or 1280 in the horizontal, or neither, its not a big deal. Just stream how it naturally is after downscaling.

Or do as Jack0r says and fill in the blank space with informational content, that's a great way to make a 16:9 stream out of something that isn't originally.

Er... 1920x1080 is smaller than 1920x1200.

What I'd recommend is going up to the next size up 16:9 ratio. Set your base resolution to 2560x1440, stretch your sources up to fill the area (but keep the aspect ratio). You'll then have black bars on the sides. You can slide your game video over to the side and populate the now-unified columnboxes with your webcam, chat, artwork, anything without being subject to the low-quality downscale that comes with sizing a source down in the viewpane. You can then use the resolution downscale dropdown to easily hit 720p. It won't get you a 1080p stream, but it'll easily get you a 720p stream at a 2 downscale (recommended max for non-partnered streamers on Twitch), or 960p which most people won't be able to tell the difference on. Problem of course being that you will never be able to stream at native resolution, which gives the best results.

But yeah, that's one of the big down sides to running with a 16:10 monitor. Matching aspect ratios can be difficult to deal with cleanly.

Thanks everyone! I have chosen to run the games within a x1080 mode and stream them. Looks a bit horrible on my desktop though since I am able to see my icons on its back, but its working fine with x720p :)
