Ryse son of Rome fps drop while recording with obs

I have seen ryse son of rome play smooth during cutscenes and then the fps would be cut in half,
it would be 60 fps and then gameplay would drop to 24-28 fps.
during mission 5 in the woods

I just got my laptop back two days ago from rma.
Before I was able to run ryse and have 40 plus fps on high settings and never had the frames drop to 18-27 fps like it is now.

I must be missing something here.
I know it is not my machine, because the parts are brand new.
I test Rome II and Attila and it ran fine.
Then I tested Resident evil 3 and Doom Eternal and they ran fine.

I know it is not the other games or hardware of my machine.
It must be either obs settings or some steam settings or radeon drivers...
But I cant seem to figure it out yet.

I need help narrowing it down.
Any help identifying the reason for the frame drops would be appreciated.

Windows 10 64bit
Ryzen 7 1700
Rx 580 4gb gram
32gb of ram
Radeon 20.7.1
Bios version 306
GL702ZC-WB74 Model Asus

your hardware isn't brand new but it's definitely good enough to record at decent fps

a GPU driver released today so try updating

the newer drivers dont seem to be supporting freesync....its a widespread issue right now with my model....
I am trying to figure out why mission 5 in the Glotss Hopp woods is terrible play....

it is acting like some kind of slowdown and possibly freesync not working...the fps would go below 40...

should be higher...

right now I have the radeon 19.6.3 and it ran fine ,but as I alt+tab and opened obs and go back into it and restart to record it started doing the unsmooth play ,you can tell by the way marius runs and the fighting...and the fps counter is too low..

I made sure windows was uptodate first...then I turned off windows 10 updates by pausing since it amd drivers always mess up GL702Zc model freesync for some reason.

then I would use DDU and restart ,then install stock drivers 1 and 2 and follow restart each time.
then I did radeon 18.2.1 and then 19.6.3...

I need to find out if it is obs during recording or the radeon driver.....
cant figure out why it is not smooth.

Now I cannot see the other encoders in my obs drop down menu...I swore I saw the other options 1 week ago.
I only see x264...I dont want to use x264

I want to use x265 AMD hardware.

just as I suspected with obs off and not being used my gameplay is fine....obs was causing performance issues...I suspected the x264 cpu encoder is the culprit.
Ryzen 7 1700 is not able to handle is efficiently.

All I want to do a record my gameplay but using x264 is not going to be an option.

Before my computer died on feb.10th I was using the obs then and was using the h265 amd framework codec....
RX580 had no issues then....it all comes down to settings...back then I made posts about it but,I eventually figured it out and got the obs to work with H265 encoder.

I need to know how to get the H265 encoder back into the current OBS?
I will not settle for the x264....that is a no go.....

I'm on version 20.7.2 but it might be different for laptops and computers or different GPUs (I have an RX 570)

if your fps drops only happen at a certain point in the game then it's probably because that part of the game has a lot more going on than usual so your laptop has to work more on the game so it works less on OBS

Now I cannot see the other encoders in my obs drop down menu...I swore I saw the other options 1 week ago.

H264 and H265 are significantly worse than NVENC and x264 so you should use x264 instead

also try lowering your bitrate because if your bitrate is too high, it can cause fps drops on your video and game

I just realised that your bitrate is 100,000 and not 10,000

that's the most likely cause of your low fps so definitely lower that to like 50,000 or less

also, if you notice pixelation, change the downscale filter to Lanczos

here are yesterday log files for the fps drops and the issue related to the x264 encoder issues killing my performance...

I don't want lower Resolution quality....The higher the bitrate the more you can see in the 1080p details in recordings....

Before my pc died on feb.10th 2020....

I was using OBS 24.0.3 and I was using the AMD Encoder H265 HEVC and at the time then and july of 2019...I made 50 Rome II Videos of the Campaign.
and BF3,4 ,BC2 and Ryse son of Rome.....
It was running smoothly then.

now,I am trying to find the sweet spot......again...I feel it...I am almost close....
But,
You guys could help me by reading the files and telling me what is wrong.

P.S.x264 is a no go......

Also,At the time it last worked ,I had the bitrate 40,000 to 60,000 and 60,000 to 100,000 but each time I changed it from those settings,I either was using CBR or VBR....but this time around it is not performing the way I remember?

If Game Mode is off and DVR too...

Either it is my old Radeon 19.12.1 driver or my pc isn't tweaked for gaming completely yet...
or CBR and VBR is ok but it needs tweaking....and testing....

oh and btw,All the Radeon 2020 Editions are Not Enabling Freesync for my Model Laptop GL702ZC-WB74....it appears to be an issue across the board right now with my model and has been ongoing since December of last year...

oh,and I am not the only owner of this model bitching about it......I already wrote Microsoft ,AMD and Asus and annoyed them with lots of bitching complaints of lack of support...

Proof of OBS recording on H265 Encoder:

I need some help here:

I have logfile telling me it cannot hook explorer.exe because it is being blacklisted
I am using 60000 bitrate and VBR I am getting 38-40ish fps while recording...
Using x264 have the threads=16 set in the options
Profile set to High, had my ketframe interval set to 5 but then I put it at 2.
CRF is set at 23.

however when I'm not recording game runs as a solid 60 with v-sync.

Earlier I tested the same settings with Rome II and it was successful.
even got a video of it.

I think I got it...
but Ryse needs further tweaking.

I cannot see the problem in the logfile....
Using High performance and game is running a little sluggish...
here is the logfile:

any help here would be appreciated.
