I'm trying to capture an sd camcorder tape as mp4 via this software.

It works fine apart from the fact that it outputs as 1920 x 1080

But I'd like something smaller ideally but can see no options

Any ideas please?

A you check Settings ?
In Video tab, change Base Resolution and Output Resolution.
But for capture sd camcoder use hdvsplit, this software save 1:1 video.

thank you tomasz. sorry to ask but not sure why you suggest hdvsplit - what would make it better please? i'd like capture various media (vhs, camcorder tapes etc ) and therefore im interested

Please follow OBS's STRONG recommendation and do NOT record to MP4. OBS tells you why not
Remux afterwards if you must

Hi sorry missed this. Where and what is the logic behind this please? I would interested to learn!

hdvsplit - is small program who save directly from firewire (most old camcorders have firewire output, is the digital interface).
Of course you can use other solution like analog grabbers, then indeed you can use OBS.

Remember old camcorders save video with interlace (in short: here we use half the data), but on computer we prefer progressive mode (in short: here we use all the data), before record to file always select on source Video Capture Device Deinterlacing (i suggest Yadif 2x).

RE Why NEVER to record to MP4, as OBS tells you front [and is mentioned all the time in these forums]

1) NEVER RECORD TO MP4 DIRECTLY, FOR ANY REASON. It is not a recording-safe format; if anything goes wrong during the recording, even for a split second, the ENTIRE recording will be corrupted and absolutely not recoverable by any means. Record to MKV, and remux to MP4 after the recording is complete from OBS' File menu, Remux Recordings.

Thank you and appreciated. What file format are you suggesting that I capture it as then please in hdv split?
