Renaming source instance

I've got a layout in obs that has several instances of the same source (capture card) in different places. Is there a way to rename the individual instances without changing the name of the source overall? If I just right click and rename it changes the name of every instance of that source.
 
Grouping works, but that's not really the intent of a source name. The intent is to describe where it's coming from, not what you're using it for each time it appears.
 
I think what the OP is aiming at is using the source in multiple scenes and in each scene having a different name or descriptive "label" for it. Such as, in one scene it takes up the whole screen, so name it "CC-Full Screen", "CC" for Capture Card. In another scene it's only a picture in picture in the upper left corner so it's name in the scene would be "CC-PIP-UL", and so on for other placements in other scenes. Putting each instance of the source in it's own Group and naming each group would be the best way to do it in my opinion.

No, Im using the source multiple times in the same scene. I already need them grouped as part of an overlay so I can't create a group for each within the group they're already in

That's why Im not trying to change the source name. I'm asking if there's a way to rename it after added to actually label it
 
I believe there is a source cloning plugin that allows you to have different names for basically the same source. I don't know if the plugin creates a greater resource burden the more sources you clone.
