Hi, I hope someone can help me:
I was recording screen with OBS studio with such bad luck that my computer shut down and the video wan't saved. Is there any way to recover the unfinished file? It's in MKV format.
Thanks

It will be saved in your output folder. You should only lose the last few seconds of the recording, if you were recording in MKV.

There is nothing in my output folder. That means it wasn't saved in any way, right? Thanks for answering

In OBS, if you go to File->Show Recordings it should open the configured directory. By default, recordings are named with a date and timestamp like "2020-05-06 12-30-22.mkv", though the extension may be hidden by Windows. They may not LOOK like a recording either, as Windows doesn't handle MKVs well. If you install VLC by VideoLAN, it SHOULD enable thumbnail previews as well as playback.
Sorry if I'm being over-specific, there's a lot of new users who don't realize that the files in that folder actually are recordings, even if they don't look like them by default Windows behavior. :)

If there is absolutely nothing in the folder, zero files, then yes, it was not recorded at all, and there is no way to recover it. OBS only records to the destination file directly, not to a temp-file anywhere.

Hi,
I recorded my video in mkv format and my storage was full so it stopped the video showing a dialog box of storage and is around 1.8g file in mkv. I can play the video in mkv but cant play in mp4 even after remuxing it into mp4. It shows 184mb only after remuxing into mp4 and dont play anything. Any solution?

You can try running the mkclean mkv repair/optimization command-line tool over it to fix any internal formatting and structure issues, then remux it again.
