Question / Help Recording with OBS slows my game to a crawl and gives me slideshow framerates in the video

I'm trying to record gameplay footage of WWE 2k20. I have the recommended specs to play this game. My CPU is an AMD FX-8350, my GPU is a Geforce GTX 1070ti, I have 16GB of DDR3 RAM. Whenever I'm not recording with OBS, the game plays just fine, but whenever I'm recording with OBS, the game slows down to a crawl. We're talking less than 10fps.

When I complete the recording, in parts where the game lags, it doesn't just slow down. The footage appears to come to a complete stop. We're talking about 1 frame every 5-6 seconds!

I've already pushed the game settings down as far as I can get it. I'm already using the "max performance" preset. Nothing seems to work.

Help me!

Other uses are having the same issue, myself included. If you open task manager, then alt-tab out of the game, does it suddenly record just fine in OBS' recording preview screen, and OBS' GPU usage plummet to 0-1% in Task Manager?

If so, we've the same problem, even though we have wildly different systems; i7 6700k, 32GB DDR4, AMD Vega 56.

Well, I can't play the game if I alt-tab out of it, can I?

I'm asking if your issue is the same as mine. If it is, the solution is to enable both OpenCL settings in OBS' recording panel. Set it to display the advanced options, then change them both to true.
