Question / Help Recording Touchscreen?

I use a capture card and OBS to record footage from my Nintendo Switch just fine. This requires the Switch to be docked. Can I record parts from games that require touchscreen? Because that would require me to undock the Switch, so it isn't recording anymore... but I'm not sure if there is a work around or if I simply can't record touchscreen stuff for the Switch.

As an example of what I mean, in the Amnesia: Memories game for the switch, there's two minigames that use the touchscreen as controls while the rest of the game is used with buttons.

If I am not mistaken your switch dock must be connected to your TV to work correct? if this is the case then you simply need to connect your switch dock to your capture card then to your TV. everything should be recorded.

i would love to know how that works.

Far as I'm aware, there are no touchscreen-required Switch games. All of them allow for analog control input when the joycons are detached or if using the Pro Controller.

Short version though, no, you can't.

You cannot capture/record from the Switch when it is in un-docked/handheld mode; undocked it runs internally at 720p and does not output video over the USB-C port; as soon as a video adapter is connected, the on-device screen always switches off (including touchscreen control), even if it's a plug-style adapter instead of the full-shield dock.
A company called Katsukity was starting to create a capture card kit for the Switch to allow screen-cap in handheld mode, but they've gone out of business due to a law being passed in Japan making the sale of modified game consoles illegal (meant to stop people from hardware hacking and cheating in games). Katsukity were well-known as being one of the only cap card suppliers for DS, 3DS, and WiiU Gamepad... at present there's no one else making anything like that.

Voez. Technically you can play with a controller, but it is essentially just tapping along to the music instead of actually playing the game (highly precise touch rhythm game, originally on mobile).

And yeah... unfortunately everything you said is 100% accurate. The best I've been able to do is go the old-school route of pointing a camera directly down on the switch, and making sure it is locked into position... which also has the (unfortunate? fortunate?) side effect of capturing a close up of my hands covering everything happening on screen.

Thanks Nintendo.
