Question / Help Recording Settings.. the third.

So, I am writing this on my phone so sorry for any grammar mistakes. Anyways, I am trying to find settings for 1080p60fps gaming recordings to a hard drive. My specs are as followed..

EVGA GTX GEFORCE 960 2GB VRAM
I5 4690K 3.5 GHz
8 GB DDR4 RAM
1TB 7200RPM HD

Im pretty sure that's all that is important. My questions are

1. What video encoder should I use, x264, NVenc, or Quick sync, and why?

2. Should I over clock my CPU? I have the money to buy a good aftermarket cooler which would allow me to OC to around 4.0 GHz.

3. What settings should I use for the encoder? I will be recording almost any game I could find, old and new. Just a good general swtting.

4. This is more a statement but please do not send me the best local recording Settings post. I have already seen it and it hasn't helped me much. The recordings look blurry and OBS lags a bit, but I've seen others with the same setup get better performance.

5. Also a statement, I am thinking about getting a 1060 for Christmas (GPU) because I know my GPU is kind of under powered.

I really need help and I can't figure it out. First I thought it was my GPU, then my clock speed for my CPU, then I messed around with settings for like 2 hours on obs, then, I was looking around today and people said my CPU is decent for recording but I might need to overclock. Then, I was trying to see if OBS would even be my best bet foe recording software at all. Some person said use Obs and DXtory. I am so confused and if anyone could help me I would appreciate it much. (Also I know my PC needs some upgrades I am working on getting a new GPU and Ram, maybe anew CPU cooler depending on what you guys say, since I have the stock cooler and wouldn't be able to OC at all really)

To be more specific about games, maybe some triple A games but mainly Overwatch, Terraria, maybe web games, Rocket League, BF1.. I'm not really sure.

Whoever said OBS + Dxtory is just retarded since Game Capture performs by far better nowadays. (also doesnt need a license)

Overclocking will barely benefit as well.

Did you post Logs on the other I assume 2 threads?

In your case NVENC should be the best way to go then ago theres a Guide for that since Settings dont really vary https://obsproject.com/forum/resour...lity-recording-and-multiple-audio-tracks.221/

It is hard to help if you dont test baseline and then post the results of the Baseline, (there always has to be a start)

1) NVEnc
2) No relevance to recording via NVEnc. Do what you want.
3) Use the settings from https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/obs-classic-how-to-make-high-quality-local-recordings.16 but change the bitrate to 30000 and the buffer either 30000 or just do VBR and set the buffer to 0. You can ignore the x264 custom settings. Set the NVEnc preset to High Quality (HQ), CFR yes/on, key interval to auto.
4) Its mostly good advice though. But its for x264 so slight alterations need to be made as I stated in 3) above for NVEnc.
5) Ok.

Do game capture, uninstall Windows 10 Anniversary Update, make sure your Nvidia drivers are up to date, don't bother with DXtory, if you have problems, set up OBS as well as you're able and do a five minute or longer recording, then post your OBS log file from that recording.

Alright, thanks so much! I will use a mixture of what you and the other guy recommended. I am currently not at home but what you are saying sounds good. I will do a test recording when I get home or tomorrow and send the results.

The thread I saw with the dxtory plus obs was 3 years old, I just realized lol. Anyways, thanks for the advice! Like I said, I'm going to use a mixture of what you guys said. What do you mean by baseline? And yes, I do have logs in my previous posts.
