Question / Help Recording PS3 & PS4

I'm a complete noob when it comes to the recording of console games. I found somewhere that I need a game capture card, so I have a few questions.

  • What kind of capture card do I need? Not looking to spend like $500, but I can probably do up to $200. I also have a HP Pavilion 1 TB Windows 8.1 laptop that I currently don't have the specs on since I'm at school.
  • How do I set up the capture card when I get it, and how exactly does it get to my computer?
Sorry for the, probably, stupid questions. Just trying to figure all this out without having a mental breakdown, haha.

Thanks in advance for any responses!

You need a good CPU in your computer, so it may be hard unless your laptop is new and/or has a good CPU, like an i5 or even better an i7.

If that checks out, you can get a USB capture device. Make sure its USB 3.0 (and that your laptop has compatible USB 3.0 ports), or else it really isn't even worth doing. If you have a desktop computer, you can put a capture card in a PCIe slot instead and everything becomes much easier.

I have an AMD A10-5745M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 2.10GHz. I also have 7.19 GB of usable RAM. Laptop was purchased December of 2014 and does have USB 3.0 ports.

I'd say you should be able to record but I'm not sure of it. APUs have a bad rap around here, but you're not gaming on it at the same time so there's a good chance.
