First post and a little embarrassing but here it goes.. I tried to upload pics but it said file is too big so couldn't... (I figured it out!)
I can't figure this out. For years while recording using obs i would secs the finished video to "users, my name, and videos" where they are stored no prob. The name shows "OBS videos (01). mp4" then 02, 03, 04 and so on.. Now i deleted obs and reinstalled it. Works great but... Now when I record a video the name is "2018-10-09 22-24-30.mp4".....
I cant figure out how to get the name changed Back? Im sure it's right under my nose but I'm baffled..
Sorry to waste your time but it's bothering me please help!!!
TY

Settings > Advanced > Recording > Filename formatting
Sorry, Are you saying just type whatever I want in there? Like "OBS VIDEOS" and it will automatically number them? Way too easy if so.
Really appreciate it.
Just tried it and thats the ticket! BUT... It is starting the numbering at OBS videos (02). I already have a (2) from before?

Global/local counters is not implemented yet. I had an attempt to make the one, but it didn't meet any sympathy.

Right now if file for recordings already exist and overwriting not enabled - program starts to generate new filename by adding number to the existing filename (starting from "2") until free name found or loops forever if number of files exceed +(-)2147483648 (obviously, without generating new name).

I have a question for you. What if there will be configurable window (right after you stop recording), that will prompt to rename the last recorded file?

I can simply change the name myself we all can. Just don't want to.. What if i make the filename format name "OBS videos (95)"? Will the next name be (96)????

Nope. The format name is "OBS videos", the part " (95)" is generated by the program. Right now, all files (2...95) should exist on the drive, only then the program will create next one, the (96).

Makes sense. But (2...95 do exist on the same drive as the new ones. But it is still naming it (2) and so on without overwriting it?

Make sure that all symbols that you recognize as alphabets of one language is really what you think of it. Look for zero and letter "O", letters from different languages etc.
Or you want to say that you has two different files on your drive, under the same folder, with the same filenames?

Also, the replay buffer is always(!) overwrites the files no matter what you set in advanced settings. Just in case.

If you want to prevent overwriting and want to keep this "OBS videos" naming scheme, why don't you combine the old naming scheme with the proposed new one? Set filename formatting to "OBS videos %CCYY-%MM-%DD %hh-%mm-%ss" instead of the default "%CCYY-%MM-%DD %hh-%mm-%ss". This way you get the prefix "OBS videos", but the counter "(12)" is replaced with the date+time of the start of the recording. Add opening and closing parenthesis around the date, if you want "OBS videos (YYYY-MM-DD)" instead of "OBS videos (nn)". Having the date in the name has the advantage that you immediately see when this recording took place.

I just wanted to continue the original format of "OBS videos (2)" and so on. Last one was (96) or so. But again now it restarted at (1).. I used the Exact same letters, spaces etc.. Maybe it isn't working (numbering right) because i added a new storage drive and move all the old stuff from c to j drive?

Please, sort your files by Name, not by Date.

Example of two similar but not the same filenames:
Code:
ОBS videos
OBS videos

Other example of files that can never be sorted "normally" (copy/paste names to see how it works)
Code:
filе 1
file 2
file 3

What exactly not clear? In file explorer - click the tab to sort files by "Name" (ascending or descending). If you see two files with similar names - just copy the name of the file that is older (F2 to rename the file and CTRL+C to copy). Then paste the name to OBS Studio (CRTL+V in the filename field of the advanced settings of the application). And then remove the last four symbols: " (2)", from the string you inserted.
