Question / Help Recording on OBS freezes after 3 seconds and won't deliever a proper video file.

Having trouble recording/streaming with OBS. After choosing a program to record, setting up my scene , and pressing "Start Recording", it will show the program real-time for 1 or so seconds, stutter for a couple more, and finally freeze on one frame until I press Stop. It seems that no matter what settings are on, it always does this.

My chances are that this is a hardware problem, but I still come in hope for a possible solution and in search advice. If you need any more information, I'll be glad to give it. Thank you.

I may be wrong, but your CPU ( and probably ram ) seems very outdated and you're trying to stream a full res ( 1920*1200 ) video on the Fast preset.
Depending on what you're trying to stream, I fear you will have to drastically lower your expectations... If not even forget about streaming :/

I guess your GPU may be good enough, so maybe you could try downscaling to the lowest thing available and put the x264 CPU Preset in the Advanced tab from Fast to Ultrafast. See if you can get something out of this. From there, if it works, try raising the output resolution ( or, well, lower the downscaling ratio )

Someone with more knowledge should probably give you better advice, though.
Oh and by the way, this log only recorded about 300 frames. How long have you been running the capture before stopping it ?

I was thinking that. And yes it was a very short recording. By that time it had already froze. I was just trying to confirm suspicions when I posted this. I was on a really low budget and this is what works for now. Sooner or later I'll need a new CPU, motherboard and RAM. Thanks for the input.

I'll work around it. Streaming isn't a priortity right now but I'd like to do it someday, you know? At least most of my games run at playable frame rates. It's not brand new but it works for now.

I think it's just that we have PCs that can't haddle it. What are your specs? My Intel Core 2 duo doesn't cut it, even with the support of a hefty R9 270X. For streaming, I know that it is the threads that count so that's probably why it worked on my i5 based laptop. Our only solution might be too upgrade, but for now, forget about streaming on our PCs until we do.
