Question / Help recording lagging a ton

Ive always have had problems with my recordings lagging a bit, about 5 seconds every video it looks like its 4 fps. I recently changed my recording settings to 1440p and 70 fps instead of 60. The 5 test recordings i did after lagged for about 10 seconds, every couple seconds with only smooth gameplay in between. I then reverted the settings back to my original settings but its still lagging the same way.

I get about 200 fps in the game i am recording in (minecraft)

I have 8 gigs of ram and an i5 core. I know these arent the best specs but obs has worked way better before. anyone have any solutions?

If you're getting 5 fps in OBS and 200 in Minecraft, cap your framerate in Minecraft. OBS needs GPU resources to work, and the extra frames in Minecraft do you no good if you aren't recording them.

I fixed it. Dont know what party of it was the solution but this is what I did. I delete all of the obs-studio appdata files and then restarted obs. This seemed to fix the recordings lagging. I think the problem might have been a bitrate that was too high. Because before I changed the fps and resolution i also changed the bitrate to be like 80 thousand which in hind site is probably too high. Anyway this worked for me after I set the bit rate back to something more resonable(20k).

For local recordings you should use CRF rate control and a quality setting between 15 and 23. CBR is primarily for streaming.
