Question / Help Recording doesn't play footage (only a still screen)

Hey all,

I've been trying to stream a bit of BF4 recently, or configuring OBS to begin streaming BF4 on the PC however I've noticed the recordings that OBS makes alongside the stream don't actually work properly. I'm finding the recordings not to show any footage of me moving around the maps and fragging/dying. All you can see is the initial load-out screen before you deploy etc. Any idea why this is happening? I've attached todays log-file if anyone wants to have a look. Cheers

Hmm, in the log you always used Window Capture, did BF4 run in Window/Borderless mode as well?
If it ran in fullscreen that could explain your result. The log shows that you used game capture a few days ago for it, might wanna try that again!

Thanks for your reply Jack0r. Apologies I haven't replied sooner, been a bit busy.

I played in full screen mate, so I'm assuming that's why it didn't record? Can I not use Window Capture while I play in full screen then? I'll try game capture again :)

most times window capture will not pick up fullscreen games. The only 2 I think would work is Monitor Capture (iffy about that) or game capture. Game capture is alot more stable IMO.

Tested it in game capture with full screen and the recording and stream now work fine :). Thank you for the support!

A quick question though: the quality of the recorded video wasn't great. I'm assuming this is also the quality for the stream too? I'm attempting to stream at 720p with 60FPS.

Jaz, correct. Window capture and monitor capture sources will not work with full screen games, only games running in windowed/borderless windowed mode. For full screen games you need to use game capture instead. A note regarding BF4, Mantle is not currently supported by game capture since AMD has yet to release a Mantle SDK for developers. If you use Mantle you must either run the game in windowed/borderless windowed mode and use window/monitor capture, or switch the game back to DirectX mode.

From your last log file you were still trying to stream at 1680x1050, be sure to set the downscale properly under Settings > Video in OBS. If quality is still unacceptable you may want to increase your bitrate. Twitch allows up to 3500 Kbps for streams, but keep in mind that higher bitrates may cause playback issues/buffering for some viewers.

DragonG53, please make a new thread about your issue and post your log file there.

Ah I see. Thanks again for that. Could you recommend what I should select to downscale it for 720p? Custom base resolution is set to 1680x1050 as you stated. I'm not sure what I should downscale it too?
