Recording concert on streaming service

Hello All,

My apologies if this has been asked elsewhere but I have been unable to find an answer that does not appear to relate to game play or streaming your own event. I was unsure if the same settings would apply for recording something that I was not streaming myself.

I am new to OBS and have no experience with recording software. I was wishing to record a concert being streamed in the next few weeks (a rerun of one I tested out OBS on tonight). As I haven't had time to get to grips with any of the various settings I used the recommended ones by the auto-configuration wizard. The recording tonight came out well, but as it was a musical concert with lots of movement and flashing lights, the slower & still parts were much higher quality to watch than the parts where there was dancing and lots of lights. The stream was in 4K and my laptop uses AMD.

The settings used were;
Recording Format: Hybrid MP4
Video Encoder: Use stream encoder
Audio Encoder: FFmpeg AAC
Base Canvas & Output Resolution: 2880x1800
FPS: 60
Total GB for 5hr 13mins recording: 15.2

As mentioned, the recording was very good. With the concert being about 5 hours long, so I am not looking to have the highest level possible due to the amount of GB that would require. I was just wandering if there were any tips you could share for how to make the action parts (dancing & lights etc) more high quality (clearer) in playback in line with the definition noted in the parts where they stood still and sang, as the difference between the two is quite obvious at times.

Thank you in advance for any advance you may be able to offer. It will be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you have the rights to record the concert. If it's free to record or you have the rights for it, keep reading.
The issue you have is that you're using same encoder as streaming. Change that to a better quality. Make sure it works as intended performing several tests. Make sure you have enough space to record the 5 hours as it will be way higher. Of course, it may be the case where the movement is to fast it will look not so good.

Thank you for the reply. As I said, I have no experience with this type of software and there are several encoders listed, but I don't know which would be the best as advice online I have found say several different things. I was hoping for advice or recommendations on which would be best for the purpose please.
