Recorded videos sometimes start stuttering after a minute or so then get worse with time

Im recording gameplay in 4K 60, playing in 4k 120, and sometimes, but only sometimes the recorded videos start out fine then after 30seconds to a minute they start getting slower then just continue getting slower over time. The analyzer mentions gpu encoder overloading but the gpu is being used less than 20% and the gameplay is fluid.
I have recorded some videos with the same settings where the recording has come out fluid aswell, but sometimes i record a gameplay session and when i check the recorded video its as above.

Playing @ 120 but your monitor is still @ 144, change it too.

Encoding lag is really high

Don't upscale, play & record @ 1440p.

Ok thanks, I was under the impression that the recording frame rate and frame rate your playing it should be equally divisible, thats why I was playing at 120 and recording at 60, is this not the case?
Why would the encoding lag be high? As stated the gpu is working under 20% even with obs recording.

It is, your monitor should also be @ 120, not 144. Since your monitor is 1440p, there's is no reason to be playing or recording @ 4k.
 
My monitor is full 4k, ive no idea why it reports it as 1440 in the logs, it is full native 4k @ 144hz. Is this a bug in obs, would a reinstall help? There is no upscaling or downscaling happening here - im playing in full native 4k @ 120 and recording in 4k60
 
Set it at the correct resolution, from your log.

Yeah ive noticed its saying that in the log - i set it in the base canvas section though is that not right? In my settings - video, both the base canvas and output are set at 3840x2160
 
Its always bothered me how it mis-reports the monitor - even in the scene selection - display capture, where it says display it reports it as - Acer XB273K S:2560x1440@0,0 ( primary monitor )
 
Ive been using the monitor for almost 3 years, theres nothing wrong with the monitor, it plays in 4k perfectly, obs has always mis reported it in the logs and in the display capture section.
As stated originally ive even recorded some videos in 4k perfectly, its just sometimes, they record choppy with all the same settings.
 
OBS isn't the problem here & it doesn't mis-report shit.

Start troubleshooting your monitor. Follow the steps in the Owners Manual.
 
So a 4K monitor, that plays, displays and anything else you want in 4K. ONE program is for some bizarre reason, detecting the primary display as 1440, but the monitor is at fault.
Its clearly something with OBS and not my monitor, and this isn't causing the original problem anyway, as stated twice now i've had numerous successful 4K recordings with the same hardware and settings, so its only sometimes, which again, cant be settings or hardware.
We will have to agree to disagree there im afraid.
 
Have you tried running again the Auto-configuration Wizard (tools menu) and applying the settings it gives. Do not change anything.
Restart OBS. It's really important to restart OBS.
Now, test as is. Notice that now you're in simple output mode. Keep it like it. Change the presets in here to see if you can record in better quality.

Please do 1 session per test uploading the resulting log file, then restart OBS, change quality, test, upload...

Check the cable on the monitor to support 4k (yes, not all cables work). Look at the monitor manual to know if the 4k is real or upscaling. Or if there's an upscaling setting in use even on the GPU. There's too many things that can cause this behaviour.
 
Yep

You can disagree all you want but at the end of the day, your monitor is broken, has a bad cable, or needs to be reset.
 
@ Paisand - yeah thanks for your suggestion, just tried a reinstallation and it still shows as 1440, but just done a successful recording at 4k right now, as ive done before, after adjusting my settings again.
Yeah the monitor is 4K, im new to the program, im not new to computers, ive been computing since the commodore 64! Its a full on 4K 144hz monitor, look the model number up.
