Question / Help recorded session same file

I know this is a noob question but how do i setup settings in OBS to generate a new .mkv session file and not continue use the same one? thanks

let me put it in other words when recording not streaming the .mkv is created but then stopped recording then come back to recording it uses the same file why? i want it split up into multiple session video files not on the same one.

Sounds like you set a specific file name in the output settings instead of letting OBS generate the file name based on the date/time. If this is how you have OBS configured, remove the file name from the output path.
