Is it possible to record the screen of a specific game/program that is not active (not in focus)?

I wanted to record the program screen contents, and be doing something else in a different program, but the non-recorded program may overlap the recording program.

The easiest thing would be to just try it.

As long as Aero is enabled (forced enabled since Windows 8), this is possible from the OS side. Even partially covered windows are available in full for a screen recording application.However, it may be that the program you want to record stops updating itself, as soon as it detects that it is mostly covered, or if it is minimized or hidden. You have to try this yourself.
