Hello,
I am trying to build a multicam setup. Currently I am using a 4K DSLR, a HD DSLR and 3 HD webcams. My goal would be 2-3 4K DSLRs and 2 webcams. Simultaneous recording makes post processing much easier.
Here's the system I have:
OS Windows
CPU Intel i7-12700K
GPU Nvidia RTX 3050
64 GB RAM
Plenty of SSD memory
Camlink Pro (for HDMI Input from DSLRs)
I'm getting good shots with my current setup, but I haven't reached my goal yet. So I wanted to ask if you guys have some tips.
Here are my experiences/attempts so far.
- New NVENC H.264
I can record well with it. Unfortunately the resolution is limited to 4096x4096. Two parallel OBS instances (with portable version) lead to a GPU overload. As I understand it, all RTX graphics cards have the same NVENC chip. So upgrading would not help.
Would more VRAM do anything?
- NVENC H.265
The way I read it, it's not recommended for Recordinh. The maximum resolution would fit, but from about 4000x4000 it also comes to an overload. Brings therefore also nothing
- CPU x264
Here the resolution fits. But over 4K recordings need a lot of CPU. Even if ultrafast is set as an option, there is a CPU overload from about 4000*6000.
Here it would be possible to use a stronger CPU, perhaps the future intel Rapor Lake i9.
My current setup is New NVENC H.264, where one camera is slightly cut off. I can add another camera by recording a second OBS instance with x264. By starting via hotkey both recordings are in sync.
Maybe someone else has another idea what I can do,
thanks,
Andy
