Record audio with Focusrite driver instead of Windows driver

Hi all,

I'm creating Youtube videos on music production and use a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 1st gen audio interface. I use Studio One 5.

When recording my audio from Studio One, the OBS Desktop Audio shows and records the audio perfectly. But ONLY when having the Windows driver selected in Studio One. I really want to use the Focusrite driver though, as it improves latency.

I always use the Focusrite USB driver for my music production and it works for that. But for some reason I can't get it to record audio in OBS.

I've also tried using Cockos Reastream to send a local broadcast and load it as a VST in OBS, but same story: only works with windows audio driver :( I'm not sure if it's a settings issue in OBS or an issue of my Focusrite.

I've also used Audio capture as source, which also only works with the Windows driver activated in Studio One. In OBS I have to set it to Speakers (2- Focusrite USB audio).

But I just can't get it to work with the Focusrite USB audio device for recording...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Focusrite support said "OBS doesn't support ASIO so it can't pickup the audio of Studio One when it uses ASIO. You can get some third party plugins for OBS that claim to add support for it, like this one (links to Asio for OBS plugin).

Tried that one, but apparently it can only capture asio input, and my DAW would be an asio output? I tried voicemeeter to set up a virtual input but I just can't get it to work ...

my idea is use a virtual cable with Flexasio and bring the audio out of the asio world to the WDM/DirectSound world

and use the virtual cable in obs as capture device !

I would sure like to know if you, or anyone, was able to resolve this in an easy, straightforward way! I'm having the same problem. If I could find a good replacement for OBS, I would do it. I tried vMix, but I can only work with one screen open at a time, so that was a deal breaker. Any help is appreciated.

I ended up fixing it by not using Windoze. Its only saving grace anymore is industry inertia.

I use Ubuntu Studio Linux.

  • It's made specifically for creatives, and has the same massive community support that Ubuntu has (because it IS Ubuntu!).
  • It has a low-latency kernel, which means it responds to things faster than it would otherwise, which in turn means that you can get away with less latency all around. (I've heard of people running a live music stage with it, instead of a physical mixer)
  • It comes with a TON of creative and media production apps preinstalled and already working, so you don't have to beat your head against a simple configuration problem that takes you ages to find on an unfamiliar system. That's already been done for you, so all you have to do is use it.
