Record a desktop screen while working on a new desktop? (Not extended monitor)

I figured out the hard way from recording my lecture while working on something else that OBS was recording whatever was displaying on the ONE MONITOR. HUGE REGRET. Settings were: Lecture on Display Only, not specific app because the lecturer doesn't stick with one app, while I work on another desktop. Replaying back I realised it was also recording my other desktop.

Did I do it incorrectly or there is no way to do it on OBS?

There is no way in OBS to select a specific desktop, only a monitor for display capture, so I assume you will always record what is currently visible on your monitor, regardless the (virtual) desktop.

It appears that you got exactly that... Note that is it a Display Capture (not Desktop).

Do I understand correctly that you were receiving education? Then you probably need to record only one window. Whether the lecturer shows a webcam of herself presenting, multiple apps, videos ,etc... you get one video connection window. So a Window Capture source will do.

The next challenge will be sound. Don't record the global sound of both the lecture and ie. the game you will be playing. If the broadcasted lecture is web browser based, you could use a Browser source. Then please check the property Control audio via OBS.
If a specific remote connection app is used, you'd need a Window Capture source for video. The area of sound from distinct sources via OBS plugins or virtual audio cables... that's not my area of expertise.
