Question / Help Recommended settings for recording?

Hey guys :)

I've watched various YouTube tutes and read many posts about ideal settings to record gameplay with OBS, and I still cannot find the right settings for my PC. Also, the settings seem to change from game to game, and I don't think that's supposed to happen if your settings are already high?

I tried recording Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice with NVENC H.264, bitrate around 40-50,000 (1920x1080, 60fps), but the recording was skipping frames. I ended up changing to the x264 encoder, with 50,000 bitrate, superfast. These settings still weren't ideal, but I was able to get a smoother recording.

I have now started a different game that should, in theory, require slightly lower settings, but the settings I used for Hellblade (which has very high graphics) don't work on this game. It skips frames, so it's rather unpleasant to watch. I've tried changing bitrates, encoders, CPU usage presets, and nothing is working. 80,000 bitrate on x264 with ultrafast CPU usage preset is the closest I've gotten to a smooth recording, but it's still skipping frames, not to mention the file size is disgustingly large (I only have limited space remaining on my SSD...).

Specs:
Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.40GHz
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
Windows 10

I can supply further specs if required.

I'm seriously doing my head in trying to figure out the correct settings. It really shouldn't be that difficult, but I just can't figure it out. And no one else's tutes seem to be helping.

Suggestions?
