Hi guys,

The graphics card for my old laptop just died recently (RIP). I'm looking to buy a new laptop (building PC is disadvantageous for me, since I might change my location soon and won't be able to transport it) and from the choices I've seen, Lenovo Y50-70 (Black) seems to be the most reasonable choice. My biggest concern is if I'll be able to stream League of Legends, Dota2 and/or CS:GO with the laptop. The laptop I had before had AMD dedicated GPU (Samsung ATIV Book 8), which had some unresolved issues with OBS; I was only able to stream/record League of Legends with low 40fps + serious stutters, which impaired my performance in game (even small stutters can impact the game highly, especially since I'm currently ranked relatively high @ Diamond 1, EUW). I'm currently located in Berlin, Germany and the price for Lenovo Y50-70 is typically around 1000 Euros (at Saturn, Mediamarkt, Cyberport, etc.).

Specs:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-4710HQ Prozessor (2,5-3,5 GHz, 6MB cache)
RAM: 16 GB DDR3-RAM (2x 8GB)
Display: 15,6 inch 1.920 x 1.080 Pixel
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX860M 4 GB
Disk: 256 GB SSD
OS: Windows 8.1

I already checked the Notebookcheck review, which was quite decent.

Thanks in advance,

Any laptop with quicksync from the CPU or NVENC will be fine for you but just note that both of those options dont look as good as x264 does. I personally wouldn't use x264 on any current laptop especially if it has quicksync already working.

Quicksync straight out crashed OBS when I tried using it on old laptop for some reason... Not sure about NVENC though, I'm very ignorant of the encoder options in general. Just trying to make sure I'll be able to stream/record without hard jitters :P Thanks for reply!

Which games do you stream/record with OBS? From my understanding, the integrated Intel GPU is responsible for displaying Desktop, File Explorer, etc. while the NVIDIA card does all the hard work in games. If you have selected NVIDIA card in OBS, then it won't really record desktop, file explorer - things managed by Intel GPU. Do you have SSD or HDD? Also, is your Y50-70 Glossy or Matte? :)

Thanks for reply. This is a major purchase for a student like me and I want to make sure it serves me correctly.

so it isn't really a game that i am trying to record. I am trying to record a program that pulls the screen of my smartphone over and displays it on my screen called mobizen. all i get when i am trying to record it is a black screen.... same thing happens when i try and record my monitor.

as to the glossy or matte.... I got the glossy, metallic :)

when i try and use the nvenc decoder i get an error saying that it can't be reached.... so i usually try and use the quick sync, which does not work...

I'm a student too (computer programming), along with being a gamer, so i needed a high end laptop. mine has worked out really well.
