Question / Help Random audio cutouts

I use OBS to record videos (not streaming) with my fiancee, my mic goes into my sound card, and her mic uses a USB dongle from her gaming headset. I use Audio Repeater to combine both mic feeds into a single Virtual Audio Cable line, and record that line with OBS.

Occasionally (maybe once every 30-60 seconds) the audio will cut out for a fraction of a second, and there won't be any noticeable video problems that happen concurrently with it. I have a feeling that I'm just doing something very obvious very wrong with my super ghetto setup, so any help would be really appreciated!

You could simplify the setup by using OBS MP and just record each of you to separate audio tracks. You could have 3 audio tracks. Track #1 Game sounds, Track #2 You, Track #3 Her.

Then you have the added ability when you edit to be able to adjust levels on all three tracks individually, and you can even mute one (say if you both talk over each other, but you want to keep one)

Wouldn't even need VAC.

The problem even occurs even when I only use my mic as a single audio source, so it's not being introduced by VAC.

Also, it's not just the voice channels that cut out either, it's both of our mic outputs PLUS the game audio that stop. For a fraction of a second (with no video hangups).

Have you tried recording the VAC channel with Audacity or something just to see if it happens outside of OBS?
