Question / Help QuickSync is greyed out.

Hi, I have a 3770 with my HD4000 drivers installed. The HD4000 shows up in device manager yet the Quick Sync checkbox is greyed out.

I have no idea how to troubleshoot this :(

Thanks
Astralogic

Edit: I thought it may be because I have VirtuMVP on, but I disabled it and ran OBS again but it's still greyed out.

Are you running Windows 8? For some reason, the installer for the Intel drivers doesn't install the Quick Sync DLLs on some Windows 8 systems. The cure is to download the ZIP version of the Intel drivers, and to copy all the files in the "MediaSDK" folder to your OBS folder. This happened to me on my laptop with Intel HD 3000 (2nd generation "Sandy Bridge") graphics on Windows 8.

Thanks, I'll try that now.

I downloaded the zip but there is no MediaSDK folder in there :(

One quick question about the igpu. I use VirtuMVP, will that interfere with quick sync if they are both trying to use the igpu?

Yes, VirtuMVP is known to cause many problems. It's best to use the fake monitor trick described in the earlier posts.

Yep, that guide just tells you how to set up a fake monitor output.

I have an annoying problem with the second monitor thing. When I open explorer or browser windows they appear on the second monitor :( So I have to keep enabling and disabling it. Is there a way to make things open only on my primary display?

same here. i was tinkering around and had a hell of a time logging into windows after a reboot :) a lot of guess clicking

unless im a wrong, i think you can forgo extending the displays. thats what i did and im still getting the option to use quick sync in OBS

just an update. streamed bf4 at 1080p on ultra settings with quick sync. displays weren't extended. not necessary to do so

It depends on your CPU. I forget if it's Ivy Bridge or Haswell or what, but something changed that allowed QSV to be used without being connected to a display.

I think I saw Krazy talking about it back when Intel was showing off their Iris stuff on Twitch, but I forget the details. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can chime in.

That's weird though, I've never once had a window open in the fake monitor. You aren't setting it to be your main display, are you? I've only seen windows open in the last place I closed them or on my main monitor.

No, it's not set as my primary display but don't worry about it. I'll play around and see what I can come up with.

It must be the Haswell CPU's that don't need the display to be extended because I don't get the option for Quick Sync unless I extended them.
