Question / Help Quick sync not enabled?

Hi there!

After researching encoding options since my CPU seems to struggle with x264 encoding, I came upon the Nvidia NVTEC and quick sync.

Nvidia is trash, unfortunately! So I thought I'd look into quick sync, which looks pretty good.

I have an i5 2500K sandy bridge architecture(which supports Quick sync - I'm pretty sure. It has Intel HD graphics 3000), I also have a ASRock B75M R.20 which DOES support quick sync!

I have followed the instructions on THIS forum post about enabled quick sync - to no progress!

I reinstalled and even tried the multi-platform version - to no avail, I don't even get the NVTEC option on the MP version.

Any suggestions?

I run:
Windows 7 - 64 bit
16GB RAM
128GB SSD
1TB HDD
Nvidia GTX970

NVENC and QSV are actually pretty comparable, quality-wise. Later generation iGPUs are marginally better, but it's nowhere near a replacement for an x264 encode.

With that CPU, you should be able to handle a x264 encode with a reasonable CPU hit; please post a log (it contains your settings as well as more back-end stuff) and we'll see if there's anything that needs to be changed.
Be aware, i5s tend to run out of steam much past the 720p@30 point on Veryfast, so if you're trying to bump 1080, or 720@60, you're going to have problems (without even getting into the associated bitrate issue).
