Question / Help Question for Advanced settings x264 with dual Xeon PC

Hello,

I'm french so sorry for my english ... =s. I use OBS ( perfect Software, thank you for this ) and i have a Gaming PC + Streaming PC. My Streaming PC is a Dual Xeon X5550 + 8 Gb or Ram and a Live Gamer HD. I want to have the best quality / bandwidth to be followed by guys even with a low bandwidth, so i Upload at 2000 / 2300 kbps, and this is actually my best video quality i have on the most " graphic " game : http://fr.twitch.tv/vesperalis/b/499199476 ( BF4 )

I like the quality, but i though it's not very good for a Dual X5550, when i see some others Streamer with just an i7 + @3000 kbps with a better quality ... :s

In pass 1, " single i7 " are very good and in pass 2, Xeon are better. So can i set my x264 to use the best of my Xeon ? Have i to change my streaming computer by just a single i7 ?

Live streaming can only use 1 pass encoding, so that's out. Your Xeon's are...ok, but they really aren't the strongest CPUs available, even with two of them.

But really, x264 settings aren't a magical replacement for more bandwith. You will simply never be able to make up for the quality that an extra 1000 bitrate gives. You can get sort of close with 2500 bitrate and some custom settings (mainly lowering preset) but again, x264 settings aren't a real replacement for more bitrate.

If you really are serious about customizing your settings, you need to read that page you linked carefully, and maybe Google some of the settings individually to find out more of what they are actually doing. The doom9 forums will also be a great resource for this.

What it comes down to, however, is you being willing to take the time to test things yourself and decide how they look. A lot of the quality settings in x264 can be very subjective and there's no clear cut answer as to what is best for any person's particular setup.

A lot depends on the type of content you are streaming as well. You'd almost certainly want to use different settings for something like BF4 compared to the stuff you would use for an RTS game, and you would want to use settings different from both of those for a game with very little motion like FTL.

Finding the right settings for your particular setup is just going to involve a lot of trial and error on your part.
