Question: Close File When Inactive (Checkbox)

How does this feature work? I have a media source WEBM file looping on a scene. If I check the box for 'Close File When Inactive' and I leave that scene.... does the file close?

I have been monitoring the cpu performance but I can't really tell. Just trying to reduce unneeded OBS resource usage.

If anyone feels like explaining in semi detail this feature that would be amazin!
Oh and which media files are less resource intensive for OBS? WEBM/MP4/MOV ?? Which is most 'efficient' for transitions, animations, overlays. Sorry a lot to ask thanks again.

It means, if you change to a scene that doesn't have that file in it it shuts off to save resources and won't become active again until you change back back to that scene or a scene that contains that same file or source..

So question, how does this work with a nested scene scenario. For example, I have a scene for animations that contains a few WEBM files that are set to be closed when inactive and are hidden by default. I nest that scene within a casting scene - one that viewers actually see. That nested scene is set to be visible by default. If that scene is visible, does OBS keep the animation WEBM's open? I don't think it does because I can modify the files in Windows Explorer in that scenario

(I'm on a separate journey looking into why my OBS's memory usage seems to have grown recently which is how I came here, but isn't a discussion for this topic :) )

I have no idea... Sorry. I only use it with browser sources and other files I want to shut down when not active.
Re-post the question and explain exactly what you want to know...Someone with more expertise with that problem will reply ..
