Question / Help Question about bitrate

So I hear you should set your bitrate to a little under your max upload, but does that apply when you have really high bandwidth? I have 36Mb upload (FiOS ftw), so I'd assume setting my bitrate to match would be a little overkill... or would it? Since it's "max bitrate" I assume it only uses what it needs to to keep the set quality? Assuming that's the case, I would guess there's no reason not to set the bitrate to something really high.

Yeah, the point behind that is not to use all the upload you have. Obviously with 36Mb, you don't need to worry about that.

Based on the quality and resolution you're streaming, you don't really need to go over 5k for anything, and even that is somewhat overkill.

I'm running at 1080p but downscaling to 720p @ 60fps with the highest quality settings. If I did something like set the bitrate to 5000, would that make the stream unwatchable for people with lesser internet? I have a friend that only has 1Mb download that couldn't watch the stream when I ran it with xsplit @ 2500bitrate. I understand that he's an extreme case, and he'd be unable to watch unless I streamed something less than 720p.

Thanks for the quick response.

Yeah, whatever you upload at is what would be required to watch. 3000 would probably be more than fine for 720p@60

Cool beans. Thanks much. I'll tweak things around as needed and hopefully I won't be needing to come back to ask more questions :D
