Question / Help Quality of recording is bad, but preview is good

I'm trying to local record guild wars 2 with OBS and then upload to youtube. When i check the preview the quality looks fine, but when i record and then later view the recording with windows live media player the quality looks horrible. Not sure if windows live media player is the problem or something else.

I'm not sure what kind of quality you expect recording at 480 x 300, but your other settings seem OK. Try playing the file back in VLC instead of WMP.

The preview shows all of your input prior to being encoded and resized. In your case it shows the video at 1440x900, Your output as R1CH pointed out is a far lower resolution, so of course it will look worse. Don't downscale to such a low resolution.

Yep, it was the downscale. I don't even remember doing that but the quality is fine now, thanks for the help!
