Question / Help Quadro as Nvenc Card Help [RESOLVED]

Hey guys,
Due to the constant issues of Nvenc not wanting to initialize in general, and especially when I have apps like Premiere Pro using CUDA open, I bought a Nvidia Quadro P400 to use as a dedicated Nvenc card.
According to Nvidia's spec, it can handle up to 2 Nvenc encoding streams at once, and up to 4K.
I set it up, set my GPU to 1 (0 is my GTX 1080) in Nvenc record settings and try to record, and it clearly isn't having it. I get the "Encoding overloaded" message, final video is choppy af (if it ever finishes "Stopping Recording"). In GPU-Z, the "Video Engine" (for Nvenc) on the card only ever hits like 30% but yet GPU Load is pegged at 100% while recording.

Not sure why they'd list it as so capable, if it can't handle 4K. Or any recording from what I can tell.
It makes me think that the GPU might actually be getting used for the full canvas compositing, though the log does say using GPU 0 (my 1080) for the D3D11 adapter. (Here's a log.)

Has the dev team done any testing with Quadros? Any clue why I'm running into this issue?
Looks like I will likely have to return the GPU, but then I still don't have a solution for Nvenc not working half the time in the first place.

You are running OBS on GTX 1080
GPU selection in OBS is not yet implemented, as far as I know.

You need to use NVIDIA control panel to make OBS run on your Quadro card.

Erm... No offense, but you seemingly ignored half of my post.
GPU selection for all of OBS is not implemented, but Nvenc GPU selection IS implemented. And it's very clearly running on the Quadro card as my Quadro GPU load is full and its running way worse than my GTX 1080.

I don't know for a fact that the "Video Engine" sensor within GPU-Z specifically is for Nvenc (which is why I'm asking if testing with Quadros has been done in the past), but it's clearly using the Quadro, as this level of encoding runs buttery smooth normally on my 1080.

Sorry. You are right,

I think OBS uses your GTX 1080 to render frames. This uses CUDA cores, not encoding ones.
But you are encoding with Quadro card.

You get this

15:35:23.570: Video stopped, number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 1497/1567 (95.5%) Using LOSSLESS settings.

15:36:40.560: Video stopped, number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 998/1066 (93.6%) Using VBR 250.000

So, as you mentioned, someone with deeper knowledge should help with your issue,

I suppose you have tried running OBS as Administrator, or recording with simple settings, indistinguishable quality. But I think you will get same results.

I will try Admin, though I can't imagine it making a difference. I won't use Simple settings, as I need finite control. I literally just need to do the same encoding my 1080 does, but on a separate card so I (ideally) don't have these weird GPU hook issues. But sadly I only have 1 single slot of space and there are no affordable GTX 1050's/1050ti's single slot. (Just a single obscure one which is almost like $250 overseas via eBay).

Problem figured out, looks like I'm bandwidth-limited on my PCIe slot, and it's the only one I can use. Returning the Quadro and looking into Atomos Recorder solutions.

Finally got it working. My. x16_4 slot never seems to work when I plug x1 cards in it, but I got it working! Quadro recording lossless 4K60 smoothly now

is this limited to p series Quadro or could you apply it to older m or k series would be interesting video if possible k4000 are only 50 to 75 second hand right now.

Hello, I know its been many years since you posted about the Quadra GPU but if you receive this and dont mind, could you please try to help with this question?
-I have the Quardo M2000, with your knowledge from the above, do you believe this board will work well with OBS? Im simply Chromakeying and using the rendered output through WEBRTC sessions. No recording locally just realtime stream.

If it will work, do I need to do anything special with settings of the computer or OBS or use default settings?

Intel i5, 16GB ram, Quadro M2000

A BIG THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!

Hi

I'm in process of buying new laptop for every day work and streaming (handball games). I'll buy a second hand laptop - HP Zbook with XEON procesor, 32 GB RAM and NVIDIA quadro M2000 graphic card. Is this graphic card working in your setup?
Regard
Boris
