Question / Help [Q] Sources + Resolutions

Hi, I'm a learning streamer. I have my experiences with FFSplit, XSplit, Adobe FMLE and now I want to try yours to see how it does performance wise with my com.

I was wondering I could stream my desktop normally at max resolution and then have my SC2 at a preset fullscreen resolution. I find my max reso uncomfortable to play SC2 so fullscreen windowed mode is out of the question.

I find the FFSplit DXtory combination can work but its uncomfortable due to the fact I have no desktop capture during then. Thus, this is why I'm here :P.

Example Video of problem :

Approximately 2.45 minute mark onwards.

I tried making two sources but I get this

Your assistance would be appreciated.

You need play in windowed mode except if you use Dxtory. In your case you can lowering your desktop resolution to 1360x768 and play in windowed fullscreen :)
update: Or, if you have enough perfomance to play on your max/comfortable resolution without stream, you can try downscaling :)

I'm currently at work and can't check your videos but from the sounds of things, you should be able to just make two scenes, one for your desktop and one for the game.

Then just set you streams resolution in settings to the resolution you play at. That should work, at least in my head :P

Using DXTory while still wanting to capture your desktop will always be something somewhat difficult to deal with, because they are two completely different types of capture sources. The best way to do this would be exactly what warchamp suggested, create one scene for capturing DXTory, and one for capturing the desktop. Make sure DXTory is a global source if possible as well to minimize any switching time.

One thing I do need in here is the ability to toggle between two scenes when alt-tabbing in/out. I'll make sure to add that at some point.. But for now, you can just set a hotkey for each scene to switch when you want one or the other to display

Currently, I have some success. I skipped using DXTory since it feels a bit unstable for me. I'll do more testing with it just to be sure.

I have a bunch of flickering so far. I suspect it was the bit rate but I'm not too sure. My upload is good enough but the data stream seems a bit low compared to my max bitrate. No frames dropped. During this test, my max bitrate and buffer is both 3000.

Output Resolutions
Desktop: 1920 x 1200
Ingame: 1380 x 768

Current Encoding (After Result video)
Max Bitrate: 2000
Buffer: 1000
Quality 7
Very Fast
Audio: AAC, 128

There might be a problem with the hotkeys but I will test again to confirm it.

Things that will be tested
-Hotkeys
-Switching Sources for SC2

not sure why you're getting flickering. that sounds like you're trying to capture a fullscreen game.. fullscreen games are currently not natively supported by the software, but will be in the future. in the meantime, set the game to fullscreen windowed mode if possible. or windowed if fullscreen windowed isn't available.

there is a bug with hotkeys at the moment, at least for when you use ctrl/shift/alt. will be fixed in the next version -- also will support mouse hotkeys in the next version.
