Good afternoon everyone! First let me just say thank you for taking time out of your day to help a stranger out.

I just recently purchased the ASUS-Q551LN 2-in-1. This laptop is fantastic. I could go on about how much I love it's features, but let me just get down and dirty with it. Here are my main specs :

Processor
Intel Core i7-4510U 4th Gen “Haswell” Dual-Core 2-3.1GHz 4MB Cache (~3,900 PassMark benchmark points)
(Wish it was Quad-Core *frowny face*.. still does its job well though)

Graphics
Nvidia GeForce GT 840M 2GB Dedicated Video Card
(I know this is a far cry from the 860M, but I can still run Skyrim at mid - high quality settings without a problem)

RAM
8GB

SO HERE'S THE MAIN ISSUE:

I am wanting to set up a console-based stream using the ElGato HD60, and would like to run it through OBS. While using the ElGato Game Capture software, I seem to not have any issues, but it doesn't offer what OBS does in terms of customization.

I experience the "high encoding" error when using OBS, and have tried tons of things to fix the problem, but haven't been successful. My video is so choppy and laggy its unwatchable. I run my PS4 video output at 720p and I have OBS resolution @ 1280x720 as well. FPS is set to 30. While OBS shows I do not drop any frames, my FPS fluctuates anywhere from 7-30 and I get the "High Encoding" warning here and there.

I have a 5mbps upload speed, and I believe my specs above are more than capable of handling this, but I could be wrong. Is there anything else I could try to do?

If i wasn't at work I'd post pictures of my OBS settings, I could do that this evening for a better understanding of what I have set if someone is interested in seeing them.

Thank you for your time.

Also - Yes, OBS is set to run on my NVIDIA Graphics Card, and not the integrated Intel Graphics.
Thanks again.

Dual-Core 2-3.1GHz

a log file would be better to show us whats going on inside OBS. its under the help menu. upload a recent log where you had this issue and copy the link from github and put the link here.

a dual-core laptop isn't must for encoding, if you have the quicksync or nvENC option under the encode tab, I'd use one of those instead. this might or might not work as switchable graphics are a pain.

Both Quicksync and NVIDIA NVENC are available. Which would be a better option?
try each at the same bitrate and see which one works best for you. most people like NVENC better but you might find that quicksync works better.
