Question / Help Problems with Resolution + Best Bitrate to Use?

Hi, my name is Christian.

I'm really wanting to start streaming with OBS, but I can't seem to find the right resolution to use. I've watched a YouTube video and used the resolution it told me, but it didn't seem to work. My resolution for my laptop is 1366x768.

Here's a preview of my stream with using the 1366x768 resolution:

I've also tried streaming with 1280x720, but it still isn't right. Do you have any suggestions as to what resolution I should use?

Lastly, I'm confused on how much bitrate I should use. I want to use the right amount to where the stream doesn't lag, but it allows it to be watched without constantly buffering. My bitrate is currently set to 1800.

If this helps, here's my speedtest.net results (in kilobits):

Any idea how much bitrate to use?

Thank you for helping,
Christian

You can set in the Video Section 1280x720 and then you go to Game Capture, Right Click -> Porperties and check "Stretch Image to Screen" this should work. It worked for me. I wanted to record 1440p on a 1080p Display Screen was to big and after I did this It fitted it to screen size.

But beware if you do so the Imgae is Indeed Stretched and will look odd cause your Native Aspect ratio is 16:10 and the HD res is 16:9

Where do I find "Game Capture" at?

Game Capture is the thing where you pick the application you want to record.
It's called game capture by default but you can rename it

Okay, I tried that and it mostly worked, however it still has the black bars at the top and bottom. Any way to fix this or am I just going to have to deal with it?

Also, my streams seems to buffer a lot for people. Would this be because of my upload speed, or is it because of my settings?

Be aware that ignore aspect ratio will do exactly that: it will distort the display of the game on your livestream to make it fit, and is NOT recommended, as it tends to look bad. Better idea, fill the empty space with an art asset, frame, or border.
