Question / Help Problems with Logitech c920 Webcam on Startup

Hey Guys,

I have tried searching around but could not find anything specifically addressing the problem I am having.

Essentially what is happening is that every time I restart my computer (so for example I finish with my stream, turn my computer off and the next day when I turn my computer on) and launch OBS, my camera window is just the clear box with nothing being displayed. I have played around with deleting the global source, adding it as a video capture device, etc and nothing seems to work.

The solution I have seemed to work out is that if I remove my webcam (from the device menu), turn off my computer, unplug my webcam, then restart my computer and plug my webcam back in, it seems to work and get recognized.

Of course I am happy that I have found some sort of way to get my webcam working, but it is quite annoying as every time I launch OBS I must do this and then resize my box to the position and cropping that I use, which simply is annoying, especially with a overlay border, etc.

Has anyone encountered this or have a possible solution? I always turn off all my programs and make sure nothing else is using my webcam before launching OBS.

Many thanks for your time and consideration reading this query, and I apologise if I have missed this being answered somewhere else.

Have you installed the Logitech drivers, or are you using the default Windows plug-and-play generic driver?
Are you plugging it into a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port? 3.0 is known to cause severe and erratic problems with the c920.

Do post a log file from a session where the cam is having issues. Logfiles are closed/finalized when OBS is exited, after a stream or recording. It may have invaluable information about what's happening.
