Question / Help Problem with game capture + GTA: San Andreas

Hello I recently bought GTA: San Andreas PC-version and I can't seem to get game capture to work with it. I've seen that there are some mods out there for the game to make it into window mode, but it comes with glitches that can make the game crash and I don't really want any mods in the game.

So sadly the game only plays in fullscreen mode which means I need to get game capture to work somehow. I've had no problems streaming other games like league of legends, diablo 3 and starcraft 2 with game capture. Just like with the other games GTA pops up and it finds it so I can select it, but the screen just stays black no matter what. Any suggestions are welcome.

If you need any additional information to be able to help me please tell me and I will provide it to the best of my knowledge.

Please post a log file.

I suspect, however, that this is simply one of those games that doesn't quite work with game capture, yet.

I suspect the same thing as you do, but I wanted to be sure.

I've read about people getting obs + dxtory + GTA 3 to work, but of course I can't get dxtory to work or even start at the moment. So I've been unable to try it out myself with San Andreas.

GTA:SA is unfortunately a very problematic game, and DXtory is at the moment the only reliable way to capture it while it's running in fullscreen mode. There is however a mod of some sort to make the game run in windowed mode, so you could turn Aero on and use software capture->inner window.

The reason GTA3 and GTAVC don't work with game capture is because they use DirectX 8. For people who use Windows 8, you can capture those two games when they run in fullscreen using software capture->monitor capture. (San Andreas does use DX9, though I'm not actually sure what DX9-specific features it uses.)

Yeah I've had read about it as well, but also found out that stuff like going beneath water levels with your camera ingame crashes it if you use this said mod.

Anyways thanks for the help and information. I am at the moment waiting for my error report to be answered on dxtorys forum and then maybe I can try it out.

I did a quick test of this using my steam copy of GTA SA and game capture indeed failed to capture the game
I also noticed the steam version failed to provide a 1920x1080 resolution and quickly went looking for a fix since I'll probably replay this sometime

I came across this patch on the Steam forums: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1952458 to downgrade the games back to their original versions 1.0/1.01

I tried the 1.0 version and wouldn't you know it OBS captured the game fine (and I was provided with 720p and 1080p resolutions), I'm not sure why the current steam version has trouble but the 1.0 version seems to work fine and I'm not noticing any problems with it so this might be an alternative solution to DXtory.

Ah, that is indeed a useful patch!

Whatever they did when they updated the game for its Steam release broke it rather horribly, yeah, which is why it has always been troublesome to deal with. (The largest resolution for the Steam release is 1680x1050 for some reason.)

Glad you managed to solve it, I'll be sure to keep that patch in mind in case anyone else has trouble with the game.
