Question / Help Problem using OBS with 2 monitors

I have two monitors. I want to capture the full screen (gameplay demo) running on Monitor 1.

However, when I set this up:

my selection of using 'Monitor 1' is not saved and it always reverts to 'custom' which results in just black being recorded.

Any suggestions?

The settings window you show in your picture does not set a monitor capture. It just sets the size of obs according to the monitor you select, so it is the correct behavior.
I would recommend to check our quickstart guide which will tell you what "Scene" and "Sources" means and how you add a Monitor or Window Capture source:

For Fullscreen games btw, use gamecapture. Monitor/Window capture will not work!!
