I tried the OBS platform on one of my computers and I miraculously figured it out, after watching a YouTube video about 100 times:-(
Beware... lots of bad advice out there
I can't even find the "run as administrator" button, as many YouTube tutorials mentioned.
No such button.
1. Run as Admin is an executable option (right mouse-click).. that is only appropriate in limited circumstances (typically gaming, on under-powered hardware (or poorly written gamin code) where end-user (you) needs to prioritize OBS Studio over other GPU scheduling... at risk of compromising computer security.
There are some limited situation where this is required, but should otherwise be avoided. BEWARE anyone that recommended such with explaining the downsides/caveats... they are the idiots or worse [tar and feathering seems appropriate.. anyway, moving on]
If anyone out there can help me figure out what's wrong, I will be extremely grateful!
I personally find reading something a bit more thorough when dealing with a complex application more helpful than videos. There are getting started guides here, however, they tend to be rather brief. This free book may be more helpful (not oriented towards gaming)
The OBS Superuser Guidebook
OBS Studio is a powerful tool. And I truly enjoy what OBS Studio has enabled for me, and my group. But, I'm highly technical and OBS Studio took me a while to get my hands around how to accomplish what I was trying to do. If what you are trying to do is composit (combine multiple 'Sources' ie Monitor/application windows, external camera video, audio, etc into a single video output... one can make that simple with REAELLY limited capabilities, or it gets complex... nature of the task. OBS Studio supports complex operations...
if looking to simple screen record, there are much easier and lower hardware requirement options
