Question / Help Primary track not playing when multiple tracks are set up

Hi,

I just updated my OBS client to 22.0.1 (64-bit, windows) 1535504464259.png and I had to reconfigure my settings. Very frustrating to say the least, but I've learned my lesson and will be getting screenshots from now on.

However, my current issue is that I have 3 tracks set up as follows:
Track 1 - Desktop and Microphone
Track 2 - Microphone
Track 3 - Desktop audio

I can record successfully and I can even split the tracks as needed with Audacity or even Handbrake. However, my typical work flow was to record and then immediately listen/watch the video to check and make sure everything was ok, at least according to that first track. Now when I try to watch the video, it only plays track 3 by default and to hear the voice, I have to split it using Audacity or save it separately, etc....

I'm hoping that there's a way to set which track will be heard when playing it back unedited or otherwise making track 1 the default track.

I'll attach a couple files or screenshots of my settings.

Don't save directly to mp4, and test your recordings in a GOOD media player like VLC.

I’ll give it a shot, but I feel like it’s unnecessary. I have always had it record directly to mp4 and never had issues with the default player in Windows 10. That’s what makes me think it’s some setting within OBS

Windows' default media players have terrible codec support, and saving directly to mp4 is recommended in precisely ZERO scenarios.

That’s the exact opposite of everything I ever found (regarding the mp4 part). What type would you recommend?

Record to FLV or MKV. If you record to MP4 and the recording is interrupted, the file will be corrupted and unrecoverable. If you require MP4 files for some other purpose like editing, remux them afterwards by selecting File > Remux Recordings in the main OBS Studio window.
From our support chat factoid bot. Since you're doing multi-track audio, MKV is the only format we can recommend.
