Question / Help Preview screen Freezes and unfreezes every 3 seconds

Hi all,

I have been single PC streaming for awhile untill I decided to go for 1080 @ 60 FPS - so I bought a second PC with high specs.

I connected my gaming PC this with ELGATO HD 60 FPS.

For some reason, in OBS, every three seconds on the preview screen, the game like freezes or something and unfreezes, I am not sure about the technical word for it (frame drop, stutter, jitter...)...

Anyways - I am certain it is not a hardware problem because this problem does not happen with Xplit.

I really want to use OBS because I have been using it from the past couple of months - and I want to import my profiles, scenes etc. But I need to fix this game capture first >< !

I tried both types of encoders, I also tried auto setup - but it just does not get fixed :(

edit: I did try doing clean OBS reinstall.

Which Elgato HD60 are you using. The USB or the PCIe version?

You should use the PCIe Elgato HD60 Pro, not the USB versions. The PCIe version does not have lag or latency. The preview screens show
immediately what is being capture by the card while you are playing your game. I have both versions. I don't use my Elgato HD60 USB capture cards anymore because of this.

USB version. But it isn't the problem because it works just fine with Xplit. Its brand new and my laptop is brand new as well -> High specs.

Cant install a pci on my new laptop.

Doubt it, but you can try to disable Elgato devices that are listed in the Playback and Recording tabs in Windows sound. Right click on the volume control in the tray and go from there. I don't use Elgato Sound Control. I've had problems with it in the past. You don't need to use it with OBS Studio anyway. You are using OBS mixer to do the equivalent. But again, I doubt that is the reason why you are getting 3 second hiccups in your preview windows.

Check to see what power management you are using. See if it is set to High Performance. Windows Start | System | Power & Sleep | Additional power settings. Also pay attention to the screen power setting. If it is set to 15 mins, perhaps change it to be something longer like an hour and see what that does. Set the sleep setting to Never. Test it out for a couple of days and see if it improves the situation.

I wish I knew the answer to this because this is exactly what is happening with me. I like OBS but unless I find a solution I'm going back to xsplit.

Right click on the source and click Properties, then change Buffering from "auto-detect" to "enabled". Fixed it for me.
