Question / Help Preview is white for powerpoint and slide show doesn't work

I need OBS to capture a PowerPoint slide show. I tested this on my computer using LibreOffice and it works fine with a window capture, both as a window and as a slide show. I tried setting a user up with OBS so they could stream to our site. She was using Microsoft PowerPoint, not LibreOffice, and we encountered the following two issues:
1) When loading the PowerPoint window as a window capture, it shows up completely white, except for occasional sections of white text with orange background.
2) When loading the slide show as a window capture, it shows up, but also captures all other programs open at the time. In addition, changing slides on the slide show does not update the display at all, and minimizing other programs did not seem to make a difference.

Having the slide show itself show up is more important than the window. Can we use a Game Capture to do that, since it's intended for full screen applications? I tested it on my computer just now (again with LibreOffice since I don't have PowerPoint) and it seemed to work.

Here is the log file from our attempt just now: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/f65f6dd1a2ff12696ab7db26aaa3b3f0

Thank you in advance.

Well, I found a workaround. I can use game capture for the slide show, but I also discovered Microsoft PowerPoint has an option to start the slide show in windowed mode and I can capture it normally with a Window Capture that way (although the status bar shows up as an annoying white line). I still wish I knew why it wasn't displaying properly.

Thanks for the tip MeirAnolick. Using your workaround and stretching the PPT presentation via Window Capture to fit my base resolution, I've managed to hide the status bar and sort of mimic how it would have been displayed in Full Screen Mode.

I was having a similar issue, I saw the solution in a video on YouTube. Basically, as long as the PPT slide show is in full screen mode, OBS does not seem to be picking it. Follow these steps, it worked for me
1. In MS Power Point, go to Setup SlideShow
2. COnfigure it to show the slideshow as a window (in MS Office 2016, the option reads as "Browsed by an individual")
3. Now start slideshow. The Slideshow is now in a smaller window which OBS seems to capture automatically.
4. You can now resize the PPT slide show in OBS to meet your needs.
Hope this helps

Hi @harisrinivasan, thanks for your tip. I was having the same issue of showing up PowerPoint (not as a slideshow but as a normal program window) and your workaround helped me. Despite this, I was able to use the windows display component recently and I don't know what happened in the latest release of OBS, but this does not work anymore.
