Preview freezes on non-graphics card monitors

Posting here as well as the Discord server for visibility's sake.
I just recently switched to an AMD graphics card after going with Nvidia for a while, and I'm noticing something's up.

The recordings seem to come out as expected, but my Preview seems to be finicky. The Preview works as expected on the two monitors I have hooked up to my graphics card, but it doesn't on the two monitors I have hooked up directly to my motherboard. Whenever I have my OBS window in a monitor hooked up to the mobo, my Preview freezes.

Does anyone know what's up or where I should start looking? I just tried running OBS as admin and that doesn't seem to help.

Bump n' update on the situation and attempted fixes.

I've observed a very similar issue on at least two other programs now:
  • Radeon Software: Program visuals freeze when window is in a monitor hooked up to the mobo rather than the graphics card. Program functionality appears to still work however.
  • Zotero: Ditto above.
Photoshop also failed to recognize my graphics card. I'm working with an RX 5700, and my previous Nvidia graphics card was much older, so I figured something extra was up.

I decided to go with a clean GPU driver installation. It felt like overkill, but it's the only related fix that I know offhand. I cleaned out my AMD driver and just to be sure before reinstalling, I cleaned out my Nvidia drivers just in case something was left behind (frankly I should've remembered it's best practice to clean house before putting in the new card in the first place, buuuut hey.)

This fixed my Photoshop issue, but it hasn't done anything for program visuals freezing. At this point I'm speculating that the problem isn't related to the drivers, at least with anything under the hood. I've only observe this happen on a select few programs, not across the board. Perhaps there's a setting in the Radeon control panel I'm missing or something else I need to download.

If anyone comes up with a fix that doesn't involve me buying a new set of cables and adapters, I'm all ears.

I can't seem to edit my last posts, so I'll risk lookin' dum by bumping this with an update. There is in fact some possibilities to consider below, so I figure it'll be worth the time to post this just in case someone in the future searching for a solution comes by.

After my integrated graphics display adapter decided to keel over and stop existing one day after a driver update, I ended up putting back in the Nvidia card. Whether related to the AMD card or not, that seemed to be the straw that broke the camel's back for me. That fixed my problem, but not quite the way I was personally hoping to. For all intents and purposes I'm personally taking the L and letting the AMD card sit it out.

That said, I did end up doing a couple things which might be useful for someone else to know. Hopefully someone else in my position will try these with a troublesome AMD card and have success where I gave in:
  1. In a situation like this one where visual ports in both the GPU and the mobo are being used, it's important to remember that there are two graphics drivers to consider: the one your GPU uses and the one your integrated graphics uses in your CPU. While making your rounds updating drivers, don't forget about the one powering your integrated graphics. Especially if you're actually making use of it.

  2. If you have a GPU plugged in, sometimes your mobo may automatically disable your integrated graphics. Chances are if you go to your BIOS settings, you'll have the opportunity to force enable your integrated graphics on. I have a hard time imagining a scenario where the integrated graphics would be disabled and a mobo plugged in monitor is still working, but seeing as to how I didn't learn that this was a thing you could do at all until I had this recent unrelated crusade, I figure I'd mention it's a thing you could in fact do in case I somehow wasn't the only one.
I hope all of this can somehow be helpful to someone else in my shoes down the line. Best of luck to them. In the meantime, I'm gon' look into what to do with this card.
Bastards!
