I only do local recordings and then I upload the recorded video to youtube. I want to know how to increase the quality of my video files. I have the Quality Balance at 10 and I set the Max Bitrate to 10,000, but my videos files still seem quite small. A 24 minute video at 1920x1080 (60fps) is only 88.5MB. The data rate is 294kbps.
My videos don't have high motion graphics. (I'm recording simulator stuff, not video games, so there isn't nearly as much motion as you'd get from a video game.) Here is an example of the kind of videos I make. Most of the time there isn't a lot of motion. The panel at the bottom is static, and the outside view is mostly black (because this is space.) That particular video was recorded back when I was still using xsplit. It seems to me that I was getting better video quality with xsplit. Since OBS is using the same codec, I should be able to get the same quality shouldn't I? When I was using xsplit, a 25 minute video would usually be closer to 1GB and the data rate would be more like 2,500-4,500 kbps.
If I check the checkbox for CBR (Constant Bitrate) in the OBS Encoder options, then I end up with enormous file sizes.
Is there a middle ground somewhere? In the Advanced section, there is a "Custom x264 Encoder Settings" text box. Is there some switch I can put in there that will give me better quality without having enormous file sizes?
