Hello,
If you notice your preview window has a little stutter in it or your recordings come out choppy, then I may have a fix for you. (the preview window does not always indicate how your recordings or stream will look)
Requirements for this fix:
A Windows PC (you will need to use the Elgato 4K utility to change settings). I have tried on VM's on the M1 but for some reason the 4K utility does not play nice.
1. Plug your Elgato HD60X into a Windows machine
2. Download and install the Elgato 4K Utility if you have not done so already
3. Open the 4K Utility and click on the Settings button on the top right (small cogwheel)
4. Go to the 'Devices' tab
5. If you see that your firmware has an update available, please update your firmware to the latest version first
6. Once updated, change the 'Input EDID mode' to 'Merged'
7. While you are here, if you want to change your audio to come in from analog audio instead of HDMI you can adjust it on the device tab. The setting does stick when going back to macOS (you will have to go back to a Windows machine to change back to HDMI)
8. Once everything is done, hit Apply
9. Connect your HD60X back to your Mac and stream/record in OBS
Note: I have the Mac Mini M1 with 8GB of RAM. I am able to stream to YouTube in 15,000Kbps and record locally in 25,000Kbps. Both are using the Apple VT Hardware X265 Encoder. The preview screen may look choppy at times but my recordings/streams look great with no hiccups.
Note2: On the Mac Mini, it appears that setting your display above 60hz may cause performance issues with OBS...at least that is what I've been seeing.
